Since Microsoft stopped their Microsoft Management Summit and integrated it into their TechEd it still felt like a void was left there in the System Center space. Of course the MMS in the old days started as a community thing and in the end it ended up as a Microsoft conference with some community input. And of course now it was gone.
Well, the community decided to step back in! (yeah i better not include too many smileys here).
User groups and MVP's and other community leaders and experts are jumping in and now the Midwest Management Summit (so also MMS in short) has been born. It is filled with great speakers, many from the community and MVP sides from all over the world. It is gearing up to be a great event and specialized into the field of System Center in connection also with PowerShell, Clouds and so on.
Have a look at this great lineup of sessions in the schedule: http://mms2014.sched.org/
Next I can inform you that I also will be speaking there in two sessions along with my long time friend, SCOM specialist and MVP Cameron Fuller
Check out our sessions here: http://mms2014.sched.org/speaker/bob.cornelissen
I hope to see you there. If you are attending the MMS, please feel free to catch me there and have a chat! That is also what these community based events are all about. I am very much looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible during the upcoming events in November. I will be attending the MVP Summit and this MMS of course!

The Windows Management User Group Netherlands (WMUG NL) is organizing another user group meeting in the Netherlands in the evening of 8 April 2014. This time it is an on-site event at a sponsor location in Utrecht sponsored by Conclusion Future Infrastructure Solutions.
We will have Peter Daalmans and Kenneth van Surksum talking about Application deployment across several devices with SCCM 2012, and Steven Duckaert will give a deep dive into the solutions offered by Nutanix, and finally Arie de Haan will show us how Mobile Application Management using Symantec App Center works.
More information on the agenda, location, speakers, and how to register for this event can be found over here on the WMUG site:
Hope to see you there!
The absolutely fabulous System Center Universe 2014 is today, 30 January 2014 in Houston during the whole day. In my case in Europe it is the second part of the afternoon until passed midnight.
Check out this great agenda with top speakers:
I am definately going to watch remotely through the live stream. I have been told that efforts will be made to record the sessions as well for later reference in case we need to miss something due to other lesser obligations such as work or sleep or whatever. Tssss
There are a good number of User Group locations where you can also watch the live stream in the comfort of the company of your System Center friends from nearby.
In past years our friends at Catapult Systems did a great job of organizing this event both on location and online. It has even gotten a following of other separate System Center Universe events in Europe and Asia at least. Fantastic! Not only fantastic that there are events in different parts of the world, but also in timing. Because there is no more MMS and it is merged with Teched USA there has to be more opportunities to talk about SYstem Center during the year and also in different locations. Of course never forget the User Groups which are very active all over the world. As you know I am also involved in one ( WMUG NL ). That is why we can appreciate any community based effort and I am happy to see many people also from Microsoft joining in to help with these kind of initiatives.
Also a shout out to our friends at the SCU and Houston and of course our friends at Catalpult Systems from the Dutch user group: Windows Management User Group Netherlands !!! Good luck and have lots of fun over there!
So go ahead and watch this edition of SCU !!!
According to a post from Brad Anderson the release date for several products will all be the same: 18 October 2013.
These are of course Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8.1, SYstem Center 2012 R2 as main components.
Because these products were developed together and work together to form a number of great new scnearios these are also now release together and will work together as well.
So lets get ready for this!
First of all my apologies to all non-Dutch readers of this blog. A part of this posting will be in Dutch since it’s mainly targeted at the Dutch audience. It’s is all about a new User Group in the Netherlands, Windows Management User Group Nederland (WMUG).
WMUG is founded by Marnix Wolf, Peter Daalmans, Kenneth van Surksum and myself Bob Cornelissen. WMUG is aimed at everything involved with managing IT environments based on Microsoft technology. WMUG will serve as a platform for everyone involved with Microsoft technology. Besides the Microsoft technologies there is also room for other mainstream technologies like VMware and Citrix to name a few. It also creates the possibility not only to attend sessions but also to present sessions on topics people excel in. So WMUG is all about the community and for the community.
With the user group we want to provide a platform for and by people involved with managing the Microsoft Windows platform. Our first session will be held on the 22nd of May this year.
This user group is for the community and by the community!
I have been off the blog for a few weeks due to visiting the MVP Summit 2013 last month and being sick for a few weeks. I am almost OK though, so starting to get back to all this as well.
Right before the MVP Summit my friends at Savision asked me if I would write something about the MVP Summit 2013 this year. Of course a lot of what is actually told and shown during the MVP summit is NDA (non disclosure agreement, so secret). However I did write up a piece during and right after the event and Savision posted it over here:
For all those who want to know what it is about, just have a look and gain a little insight.
My good friend and MVP Kevin Greene put out a blog post here with details on how you can win a copy of Mastering System Center 2012 Operations Manager by downloading and evaluating System Center. Look here for his blog post.
You might have seen this out in the community already during some discussions and forum posts and such, but now we can tell you that the SP1 version of System Center 2012 is RTM (no not today, it was already at that stage an undisclosed amount of days ago). However today is the day it has been placed on TechNet and MSDN in order to download for people who have access to these. So now I can talk about it a bit more. Just to be clear, this does not mean everybody can download and use it yet, this is not GA. The GA date will be disclosed at a point in the near future when all the announcements will be made and everybody will have the pleasure of working with this great release!
Also the documentation is not at a final release on the internet yet, but this will also be updated soon.
There are lots of great things in this release for all the products. Of course the Windows 2012 support for both the System Center server backend machines and the managed/monitored systems is a big one. But there is a lot more in there!
Can't wait to install the latest bits and start using it in a final version.
For those who can not download and use it yet... well there is lots to do during the holiday season of these weeks! Enjoy the season and your family and friends and food and drinks and so on!
I want to congratulate the System Center Product Team with this achievement and of course to also extend seasons greetings to them!
Update 21-Dec: FAQ
Q: Is SP1 RTM?
Q: Is SP1 GA? Or when will it be GA?
A: It is not GA today. I do not know when it is going to be GA and/or can not say. Microsoft will let us know at the GA point in time that it will be GA. Thats how its gonna be.
Q: Can I download and use SP1?
A: If you are TechNet or MSDN subscriber and have the right access rights (perhaps all subscribers have those rights, I dont know), you will see it and be able to downlaod and use it. Many people/customers/admins who do not have access to these tools will not be able to download/get it until GA. But I guess this is also linked to availability of license keys (if you start all over with SC 2012 at that level), and documentation and all such things. In this way the people who are playing with the products and test and investigate can use it for a few days/weeks/?? until GA and can hit the ground running.
At last MMS 2012 we got the opportunity to take the beta versions of the Private Cloud exams 70-246 and 70-247 for System Center 2012. I must say they were tough exams and I and many others were not sure about the results. Usually I have a feeling about an exam I took, but this time it was very mixed. The thing is with these exams that they are filled with questions on different technologies in the System Center 2012 suite and stuff around it.
Yesterday I got confirmation on the first exam and today on the second one. I am pleased to report that I passed both of them.
Very happy with that. It means I have all the prerequisites for the MCSE Private Cloud certification!
I will soon write a post about all the new Windows Server, desktop and System Center exams and certifications which are here or coming up within this year. It will probably not contain the same about the SQL 2012 and programming/Visual Studio related exams for 2012, but know there will be similar new exams for those as well.
